From September 22–24, the NextStep event took place in Sulaymaniyah, aiming to bridge the gap between 12th-grade graduates and their potential educational and career paths. NextStep focused bringing together universities, institutes, vendors, and various NGOs to support youth in setting clear goals for their futures.

The event featured panels and discussions covering a wide range of topics, including public and private sector education in Iraq, support for young people in starting careers or businesses, and solutions to challenges within Iraq’s educational system. Specific sessions addressed university admissions, academic readiness, and government support. One of the panels also covered environmental awareness, emphasizing the importance of climate change knowledge among younger generations.

MEED Foundation played a significant role as the data partner throughout the event. A team from MEED, including 25 trained volunteers, gathered data across the event days from students, vendors, parents, and visitors, totalling 2,773 entries at 162 different data points. MEED also set up one of their Air Quality Network (AQN) devices within the event hall to measure indoor air quality, adding an environmental perspective to their participation.

At the close of the event, the NextStep organizers honoured the MEED Foundation with an appreciation award for acknowledging the foundation’s active support and data-driven contributions to the event’s success.
