In celebration of World Wetlands Day, MEED Foundation joined the University of Sulaimani in a special event highlighting their innovative campus wetland project. The initiative, developed in partnership with the World Food Programme in Iraq, demonstrates a sustainable and intelligent solution for wastewater treatment through ecological engineering.

The project utilizes natural and organic processes to purify wastewater for irrigation purposes, contributing to responsible water use and combating pollution and soil degradation. As one of the first of its kind in the region, this initiative represents a powerful example of sustainable water management in academic settings.

During the event, MEED Foundation reaffirmed its support for forward-thinking environmental projects and emphasized the importance of research-driven action. Through its Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Sulaimani’s College of Environmental Sciences, MEED is actively engaged in supporting environmental monitoring, data science, and community-based solutions to address ecological challenges in the Kurdistan Region.

World Wetlands Day serves as a reminder of the critical role wetlands play in ecosystems, and MEED Foundation remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote environmental innovation and sustainable development in Iraq and beyond.
